Mohave County has the proud distinction of being one of four original Arizona counties. It was created by the First Arizona Territorial Legislature in 1864, and its present borders were solidified in 1881. Although Mohave County is very large the population is very low. It has several mid-size cities such as Kingman and Lake Havasu City, but much of the space is open. However, adjacent to the county are several very large population centers. Las Vegas is less than an hour away to the northwest, while Phoenix is less than two hours away to the southeast. Los Angeles is about four hours to the west.
Caught between the two largest counties by area in the US (San Bernardino County, CA and Coconino County, AZ, respectively), Arizona’s Mohave County may seem like it might get lost. However, Mohave is a huge landmass itself, and it has plenty to offer anyone looking to purchase vacant land. Located in the northwest portion of Arizona and bordering Utah, Nevada, and California, Mohave County is the country’s fifth largest county. Mohave County is an outdoorsman’s paradise. The county contains part of Grand Canyon National Park and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. In addition to Lake Mead, Lake Havasu, Lake Mojave, and the Colorado River contribute to over 1000 miles of coastline within this landlocked Arizona county. Unlike anywhere else in the great southwestern desert Mohave County offers people drawn to the water the opportunity to fish, swim, boat, and enjoy aquatic activities.
